2015 Ford Flex Exterior

2015 Ford Flex Overview (See Available Styles)

  • No major changes for the 2015 model year
  • Seats six or seven passengers
  • Two V-6 engine options; front- or all-wheel drive
The 2015 Ford Flex soldiers on into the new model year sans major updates, but with considerable comfort, style, and a flexible interior.

The Flex is unchanged minus the addition of a few new exterior color options and standard heated side mirrors. It retains the distinct, boxy styling that stands out from other people carriers. Ford lists the Flex with its other crossovers and SUVs but it’s always looked to us more like an enlarged wagon. Down the sides of the Flex run horizontal lines which stretch it visually. A power liftgate for added convenience and a vista roof, which provides natural light and open air for all three rows, are both optional.

There are two V-6 engine options.  The base engine is a 287-hp, 3.5-liter V-6, while a 365-hp, twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 is optional. Both engines are offered with a six-speed automatic transmission and paddle shifters are included with the EcoBoost V-6. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional.

With the base engine and front-wheel drive, the Flex delivers 18/25 mpg city/highway and upgrading to all-wheel drive drops the fuel economy rating to 17/23 mpg city/highway. The more powerful turbocharged V-6 Flex, with all-wheel drive, gets 16/23 mpg.

Inside, the Flex offers seating for six or seven passengers depending on the selection of a second row bench, or reclining bucket seats. There is 20 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row and both rows can fold down to open up even more space, up to 83.2 cubic feet which can swallow up large objects with ease. The third-row bench is split 50/50 and can be upgraded with a power-folding feature that offers tailgate seating, flipping the third row to face rearward for picnics or sporting events.

Standard interior features include cloth upholstery, a power driver’s seat, front/rear climate control, and an auxiliary audio input jack. The Flex offers plenty of entertainment options, including a Sony sound system with 12-speakers, SiriusXM satellite radio, and DVD entertainment system. Ford’s SYNC system is included for hands-free audio and phone control, and a navigation system with SiriusXM traffic and travel link is available.

Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, antilock brakes, electronic stability control, and rear parking sensors which is a welcome addition on a vehicle of this size. Optional inflatable second-row safety belts soften the impact of a frontal or side crash, and are compatible with child safety seats.

EPA Fuel Economy

  • City: 16 - 18 MPG
  • Highway: 23 - 25 MPG
