2011 Ford F-250 Overview
If you’re looking for a three-quarter-ton heavy duty truck with new capable engines that provide plenty of torque for all of your towing and hauling needs, then the restyled 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty is your truck.
The most notable change to the sturdy F-250 is the two new, more powerful engines. A 6.2-liter, 385-horsepower V-8 offers a modest 405 pounds-feet of torque, while the 6.7-liter, 390-horsepower Power Stroke V-8 diesel packs a staggering 735 pounds-feet of torque. That crazy amount of torque allows the 2011 F-250 to tow 14,000 pounds; or 16,500 pounds when incorporating the fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailer prep package. When it comes to payload, the F-250 can haul up to 3,880 pounds.
Both engines are mated to a six-speed TorqShift® automatic transmission with auto-manual capabilities, and can be had in rear-wheel, or four-wheel drive. Ford is happy to announce that fuel economy for the diesel engine and the gas-only engine have improved 18 and 15 percent respectively over last year’s engines. Those estimates should put the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado on notice that a new fuel-efficient sheriff is in town.
One of the many reasons why the 2011 Ford F-250 looks to dominate the segment is its cornucopia of trim levels and cab configurations. The F-250 Super Duty is available in base, XL, XLT, Lariat and King Ranch trims; and regular cab, SuperCab and crew cab versions. The regular cab seats three, while the SuperCab and crew cab seat six. The Lariat is available in SuperCab and crew Cab variations only, while the King Ranch only comes in the crew cab configuration. The regular cab is regular because it features a long bed, while the SuperCab and crew cab utilize either a short (6.75-foot) or long (8-foot) bed.
The functionality of the F-250 is enhanced with Ford’s SYNC® multimedia system, with traffic, directions and information. The available Ford Work Solutions™ is based around an in-dash computer with high-speed internet and wireless accessories. The cable lock system provides security for tools stored in the truck, and the Crew Chief™ system allows you to perform powertrain diagnostics on vehicles within your fleet.
This industrial-grade pickup does offer a fully boxed frame ready for collision with any vehicle on the road, and four-wheel antilock brakes help ensure you don’t need to find out how strong this truck is. Standard front airbags protect the driver and front passenger. Trailer sway control, hill start assist/hill descent control and an SOS post-crash alert system are also standard, while a rearview camera is optional.
