2014 Ford Expedition EL Overview
The Ford Expedition is a truck-based, full-size SUV that can carry up to eight people. It competes with the Chevrolet Tahoe, Toyota Sequoia and Dodge Durango. An extended version, called the Expedition EL, is about 15 inches longer and has a standard third row. It competes with the Chevrolet Suburban.
The Expedition has squared-off four-bar grille and angular headlights, rear window can open independently of liftgate, and a capless fueling system. Signature features include fog lamps, exterior keypad system, and heated mirrors. It sits on 17-inc wheels with 18- and 20-inch wheels available. Additional options include power moonroof, power running boards, and a power liftgate.
Comfortable seating up to eight in three rows accommodated, including a third-row seat that folds flat into the floor; optional power-folding third row. Auto-dimming rearview mirror and leather-wrapped steering wheel also standard. Optional Sync multimedia system, heated and cooled front seats, navigation system, and DVD entertainment system available.
Under the Hood
The Full-SUV is powered by a 310-horsepower, 5.4-liter V-8 with 365 pounds-feet of torque in six-speed automatic transmission. It comes standard in rear-wheel drive, but four-wheel drive is optional. The engine runs on regular gas or E85 ethanol, and optional load-leveling suspension available. Maximum towing capacity of 9,200 pounds, when properly equipped achievable.
The Expedition features front-seat side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags. Trailer-sway control, electronic stability system with anti-rollover technology, and four-wheel-disc antilock brakes help provide stability. MyKey programmable vehicle key for convenience and optional backup camera available.
