2012 Ford Escape Hybrid Overview

The 2012 Ford Escape Hybrid provides the convenience of a crossover SUV with the environmentally conscious features of a hybrid vehicle.

This five-passenger compact SUV caters to the Earth-minded consumer with eco-friendly seating made of 100 percent post-industrial recycled material and bio-based polyurethane foam cushions made from soybean oil and other plant seed materials. The hybrid electric engine can operate solely on electric power up to 44 mph, and the 2012 Escape Hybrid delivers a fuel performance rating of 34 mpg city / 31 mpg highway, making it the most fuel-efficient SUV on the market.

Both the base model Escape Hybrid and Limited trim models come equipped with a 155-horsepower, 2.5-liter, I-4 gas hybrid engine and 330-volt sealed nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH) battery. Engine performance is maximized with a 2-speed electronically controlled continuously variable transmission with overdrive, and regenerative braking recharges the battery during braking and downhill driving. For drivers looking for more control, an intelligent four-wheel drive system is optional on both trim levels.

The 2012 Ford Escape Hybrid packs the same technology features as the gas-engine Escape models, with Voice-Activated SYNC for hands free telephone and audio control, MyKey parental controls, and optional Active Park Assist, which takes the guesswork out of parallel parking and requires the driver only to tap the brake or gas while the vehicle automatically navigates into a parallel parking space. Both the base and Limited trims also include a 110-volt AC power outlet, in addition to the 12-volt power points.

SiriusXM radio, with a 6-month trial subscription, comes standard on both the base and Limited trims, and an optional voice activated navigation system with SiriusXM Traffic and HD Radio is available. The Leather Package is standard on the Limited model, with premium leather trimmed heated front seats for the driver and front passenger.

Exterior styling features body-color upper and lower grilles, and standard 16-inch cast-aluminum wheels. The liftgate has flip-up glass and privacy glass comes standard for the liftgate, rear door, and quarter windows. The Escape Hybrid has an easy fuel capless fuel filler, eliminating the possibility of ever leaving the gas cap behind at the station. The Limited edition comes standard with a power moonroof and rearview camera.

Driver and passenger safety is ensured with safety features that include front safety belt pretensioners, duel-stage front airbags, a rollover sensor and extended-duration side curtain airbags for both front and rear seating. Roll stability control provides gyroscopic sensors that measure vehicle yaw and roll motion to automatically provide brake pressure and engine power adjustments to keep the vehicle under control and on the road.
