2016 Hyundai Elantra GT Coupe/Hatchback Overview
- Refreshed for 2016 with added interior options and a new exterior design
- Hatchback version of the compact Elantra sedan
- Lots of standard features
The 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT gets a significant update for 2016 and continues to offer great value for consumers with a low base price but lots of content.
This refresh includes changes to both the exterior and interior styling, as well as new interior options that spruce up the Elantra GT’s technological acuity. Though the 2016 model keeps the same basic shape as last year it’s gotten a facelift that changes up the front styling with a new, bolder front grille surrounded by wraparound headlight clusters. 16-inch steel wheels come standard, with 17-inch alloy wheels with a new design optional.
Under the hood, Elantra GT’s engine carries over, a 173-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that is mated to a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai has updated the Driver Selectable Steering Mode for 2016 to provide better feel. Drivers can still choose between three settings (Comfort, Normal, and Sport) for their desired preferences based on road conditions. Fuel economy is estimated at 24/33 mpg city/highway.
Moving inside, the Elantra GT adds new available features, including ventilated front seats, HD radio, a Siri integrated navigation system, and an updated Blue Link connectivity system that adds remote start with climate control setting and Google powered destination searches. Thanks to its hatchback shape, the Elantra GT beats the sedan by a wide margin in rear cargo room, 23 cubic feet to 14.8 in the sedan. For a vehicle that starts at under $20,000, the Elantra GT has an almost absurd list of standard equipment. All models come with air conditioning, cruise control, heated front seats, Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, a cooled glove box, and satellite radio. Also available are dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, and powered front seats.
The 2016 Elantra GT got a full five-star overall crash test rating from the NHTSA, their highest rating. Standard safety features include seven airbags (including a driver’s knee airbag), a driver’s side blind spot mirror, electronic stability control, and antilock brakes. A rearview camera that is hidden behind the Hyundai logo in the rear is optional, as is Blue Link Connected Care with one-year of complimentary service which functions like GM’s OnStar service.
