Dodge Viper vs. Cadillac XLR Review

Utility
The Cadillac XLR is likely a better choice than the Dodge with respect to transporting cargo, especially if you often need to carry a lot of loot or pets. Neither the Dodge nor the XLR has a marked advantage in terms of seating capacity.

Performance
With that kind of horsepower, both the Dodge Viper and the Cadillac XLR are full-blown speedsters.

Dimensions
The Cadillac XLR is slightly heavier than the Viper. The Cadillac XLR's tank is roughly the same size as the Dodge Viper's, though the Dodge Viper's is a little larger. The Cadillac XLR rides lower than the Dodge Viper, which is a good thing for its center of gravity and ease of access. The Dodge Viper and the Cadillac XLR compete for the same parking spaces. The Cadillac XLR's longer wheelbase will result in a smoother, more stable ride; on the other hand, the Dodge Viper may give a nimbler feel in daily traffic.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs roughly the same to get the Cadillac XLR to the dealership as the Dodge. With respect to MSRP, the Dodge Viper costs approximately as much as the Cadillac XLR (though the Cadillac XLR is slightly cheaper). The Dodge Viper is quite a bit costlier than the Cadillac XLR as far as final cost. The XLR will save you a bunch of money at the pump every year compared to the Dodge Viper.

Handling
The Dodge Viper has tremendously bigger tires than the Cadillac. Keep in mind that wider tires can look and feel better, while smaller tires may improve gas mileage. With their similar turning radii, the Cadillac XLR and the Dodge Viper quite certainly handle about the same into and out of tight spots.

Drivetrain
The XLR's engine is tremendously smaller than the Dodge Viper's. Remember that a smaller engine usually has to work a little harder; however, smaller engines are often cheaper to fix. The Dodge Viper packs quite a wallop compared to the Cadillac regarding torque, which is roughly equivalent to acceleration. The Cadillac XLR could learn a lesson or two from the Dodge Viper as far as torque.

Comfort
Taller drivers will quite a bit enjoy the extra head room in the Cadillac XLR's front cabin compared to the Viper.

Overview
The basic warranty that comes with the Dodge Viper isn't quite as generous as the Cadillac XLR's. When it comes to after-sale protection against rust, the Cadillac XLR has significantly better coverage than the Dodge Viper.
