With their similar turning circles, the Ford and the Dodge definitely handle approximately the same into and out of tight spots.

Drivetrain
The Dodge Durango has a larger engine than the Ford Explorer. Remember that smaller engines typically get better gas mileage, but smaller engines can be stressed more. Torque is the force that lets you accelerate quickly, and in this respect, the Dodge Durango is considerably more powerful than the Ford Explorer. The Durango packs quite a punch compared to the Ford Explorer with respect to torque, which is roughly equivalent to acceleration.

Utility
Drivers with frequent kid-duty might favor the Durango over the Ford. There's no clear winner between the Dodge Durango and the Ford Explorer with respect to hauling capacity. The Dodge outpulls the Ford Explorer by a large margin.

Convenience
The Explorer's fuel tank will need to be replenished more often than the unit in the Dodge Durango.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the Dodge Durango offers a bit more head room than the Ford Explorer, there really isn't much of a difference. The Dodge is not particularly more spacious for your passengers than the Ford Explorer.

Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Dodge Durango than the Ford Explorer because of its larger tank. The Explorer and the Dodge compete for the same parking spaces.

The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs almost the same to get the Ford to the dealership as the Dodge. There isn't much of a difference in gas mileage here, but if you must know, the Ford Explorer is a bit more economical than the Dodge Durango. With respect to MSRP, the Dodge Durango doesn't cost much less than the Ford Explorer.
