Performance
As far as horsepower, the Dodge Avenger packs quite a wallop and will knock the Chevrolet Cobalt down a few rungs. On the other hand, bear in mind that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.

Handling
With its tighter turning circle, the Cobalt is most certainly nimbler than the Dodge Avenger, something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; on the other hand, remember that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the highway.

Drivetrain
The Cobalt's engine is slightly smaller than the Dodge Avenger's, but not terribly so. The Chevrolet has no lessons to learn regarding torque from the Dodge Avenger.

The Dodge Avenger is tremendously more bulky than the Chevrolet Cobalt. Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Dodge Avenger than the Chevrolet Cobalt because of its bigger tank. The Chevrolet Cobalt and the Dodge Avenger compete for the same parking spaces.
