2012 Dodge Avenger Overview
The 2012 Dodge Avenger is back for more with a brand new R/T trim that features a V-6 engine and a stiffer suspension. This midsize sedan competes with cars like the Ford Fusion, Chevy Mailbu, and Mazda6. In 2011, the Avenger received major exterior and interior changes, so not a lot has changed from the previous model year.
Offering more power and a few exterior tweaks that set it apart from other Avengers, the new Avenger R/T features a 283-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6, Chrysler’s latest corporate engine that’s made its way into several other models as well. On top of that, the impressive list of changes is rounded off with tinted headlamps, a spoiler, leather interior, and fog lights.
The Avenger’s base engine is a 173-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder. The front-wheel drive Avenger comes with a four-speed automatic transmission attached to its base trim, but the rest get an upgraded six-speed automatic. When it comes to fuel economy, the Avenger is no slouch with ratings of 21/30 mpg city/highway for base trims while the R/T clocks in at 19/29 mpg city/highway.
Standard interior features include cruise control, power windows, and a tilt/telescopic steering wheel with mounted controls. Optional features range from a navigation system, a power moonroof, and a DVD entertainment system.
Safety features include brake assist, traction control, a security system, and six standard airbags. The Avenger was an IIHS Top Safety Pick for 2011, so you can expect similar performance from this year’s model.
