2013 Chrysler 300 Overview

The 2013 Chrysler 300 is the most recent iteration of an icon synonymous with largesse; big wheels, bold styling, and plenty of horsepower.

On the outside, the 300 got a redesign in 2011 that rounded out some of its sharper edges for a more mature, classy look. Creases and folds run down the whole body, and the front end looks quite evil. As standard, the 300 gets intermittent windshield wipers, automatic headlamps, daytime running lights, 17” alloy wheels, and an integrated spoiler. Available features include bi-xenon headlights, 18” and 20” chrome wheels, and several upgraded body trim pieces.

The interior of the 2013 Chrysler 300 is typical for Chrysler: the panels look good, the colors match well, and the surfaces feel quality to the touch. Chrysler has paid more attention to its interiors of late and that focus is well represented in the 300’s cabin which is one of the best you can find in a non-luxury car. If you’re a fan of blue lighting, the instrument panel will tickle your fancy, emitting an eerie blue glow that is especially noticeable at night. Standard features include power-adjustable leather seats, an 8.4-inch touch-control multi-media display, a six-speaker audio system, USB/iPod port, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The options list is quite extensive and includes a satellite navigation system, 10-speaker premium Beats audio, heated steering wheel, and even cooled/heated cup holders.

The 300 offers both V-6 and V-8 engine options. The base engine is a 292-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 with 260 pounds-feet of torque that is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is optional. An optional 363-horsepower, 5.7-liter V-8 makes 394 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to five-speed automatic. This V-8 also uses cylinder-deactivation technology to improve fuel economy. Rounding out the 300 model lineup is the high-performance SRT8 version with its 470-horsepower, 6.4-liter V8.

The V-6 is good for 19/31 mpg city/highway with RWD and 18/27 mpg in the AWD layout. Opting for the V-8 nets 16/25 mpg with RWD and 15/23 mpg with AWD, slightly lower than the V-6.

Chrysler is very proud of the 2013 300 for its Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS and full five-star overall rating from the NHTSA. Every 300 features seven airbags, traction/stability control, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, active head restraints, and an electronic aid that improves wet braking performance. There is also plenty of available safety technology, such as adaptive cruise control, adaptive headlights, blind spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, and front/rear parking sensors.
