2013 Chrysler 200 Overview

Boasting a sub-$20,000 starting price, the 2013 Chrysler 200 is Chrysler’s entry-level car, straddling the line between midsize and compact.

The Chrysler 200 is available in two varieties: sedan and two-door convertible (both soft-top and hardtop). It debuted in 2011 as a replacement for the outgoing Sebring, getting a new name to hopefully distance it from the Sebring’s less than sterling reputation. The 200’s appearance is pretty conservative by contemporary standards, but there are a few premium design touches that catch the eye including the LED light pipes up front and a large chrome strip across the rear. Standard styling features include projector beam headlamps, the 17-inch steel wheels (18-inch alloys are optional), and a wide Chrysler badge on the trunk that looks very sleek.

Chrysler has put a lot of emphasis into improving their interiors over the last several years and the interior does reflect that effort. At a glance, it looks elegant; all the colors mesh well and the panels don’t leave huge gaps. However, keeping the 200’s price point in mind, the materials in the cabin slightly trail the design until you reach higher trim levels. The standard seats are cloth, but leather upholstery is available. A four-speaker stereo, air conditioning, and multi-function steering wheel are also standard. In addition, power-adjustable seats are available, along with a six-speaker sound system, navigation system, heated front seats, and a touch-screen stereo that also offers 28 gigabytes of music storage.

The 2013 Chrysler 200 gets two engine options. The base engine is a 173-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 166 pounds-feet of torque paired with either a four-speed (sedan only) or six-speed automatic.  The four-cylinder engine is capable of 21/31 mpg city/highway with the six-speed (21/30 with the four-speed) while the convertible, thanks to its added weight, gets 18/29 mpg city/highway . The optional engine is Chrysler’s 283-horsepower, 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 with 260 pounds-feet of torque. Paired with a six-speed auto-box, the 200’s V-6 will return 19/29 mpg city/highway (both sedan and convertible). For 2013, the 200 convertible also gets various suspension and chassis upgrades, adding stiffness which makes the drop-top a better drive.

Chrysler is extremely proud of the 2013 200’s Top Safety Pick+ rating, a brand new rating for 2013 models that incorporates a more intensive set of crash tests. The Chrysler 200 gets six airbags (sedan), traction/stability control, active front head restraints, crumple zones, and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes.
