2012 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid Overview
The 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid is the perfect vehicle for those who want more efficiency out of their full-size SUV.
Like the gas-only Tahoe, the hybrid version adds some of the same features for 2012, including a 30 GB hard drive, navigation system, seven-inch touch-screen and USB port. Those who tow campers and other big items will like that electronic trailer-sway control and hill start assist are part of the standard electronic stability control system. Side-impact airbags for the front seats are now standard equipment. The 2012 Chevy Hybrid competes with the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and the GMC Yukon Hybrid.
If a fuel-efficient full-size SUV is what you want, then the Tahoe Hybrid should be at the top of your list. A 332-horspower, 6.0-liter V-8 boasts cylinder deactivation technology, which deactivates half of the cylinders when they aren’t needed. The Tahoe Hybrid boasts a two-mode hybrid system allowing the Tahoe to operate up to 30 mph on electric power alone, bringing the net horsepower to 379. The engine is paired to an Electrically Variable Transmission, and can be had in rear- or four-wheel drive. EPA-estimates are 20 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, which is a noticeable improvement of 15/21 mpg for the gas-only model. The Tahoe Hybrid also pollutes less with 6.3 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year (compared to 7.8). Tow up to 6,200 pounds in a two-wheel-drive Tahoe.
The 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid can seat up to eight occupants in three rows of seats. The 50/50 split rear bench can be removed, creating 109 cubic feet of cargo space, compared to nearly 17 cubic feet with it in. Most of the goodies are standard, and include tri-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable pedals, heated six-way power front seats, leather upholstery in the first two rows, a navigation system, voice controls, real-time traffic information, a touch screen interface, Bluetooth connectivity, nine-speaker Bose stereo, iPod/USB port and auxiliary input jack. An economy gauge in the instrument cluster encourages efficient driving behavior, while the navigation system displays hybrid power-flow animation. A rear-seat entertainment system and sunroof are optional.
In terms of safety, the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid has side curtain airbags in all three rows, seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the front seats, antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, automatic headlights and rear parking sensors.
You won’t have to sacrifice power and utility if you want to go green in the spacious and rugged 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid.
