2013 Chevrolet Spark Overview

The brand new 2013 Chevrolet Spark minicar appears for the first time on American shores as an appealing and affordable option for city dwellers and young drivers.

While this is the Spark’s first time in the US market, it has been available overseas since 2008. This subcompact seats four and unlike much of the competition, features four doors for easier backseat access while others offer two-door models. The Spark is available in three trim levels and offers attractive pricing with a host of standard and optional features.

The Spark is powered by an 84-horsepower, 1.2-liter, four-cylinder engine, and comes with a choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Fuel tank capacity in the Spark is approximately nine gallons; fuel economy ratings check in at 32 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway.

Cloth seats come standard in the Spark, and heated, leatherette front seats are a standard feature in the premium trim level. A tilt steering column is offered in all models, and cruise control is available in all trim levels except the base LS. The standard stereo includes four speakers and audio input jack, while MyLink audio with seven-inch color touch screen, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, Bluetooth audio steaming and hands-free calling, SiriusXM satellite radio, USB port and Pandora radio is available. Power windows and air conditioning are offered as standard features on all models.

At first glance, the Spark looks like a two-door vehicle; but a closer look reveals the rear door handles integrated near the C-pillars. Oversized headlights and iconic Chevrolet black grille define the front end, which are complemented by optional fog lamps. In an attempt to appeal to younger buyers, the Spark is available in a rainbow of whimsy colors, with names such as Lemonade, Techno Pink and Jalapeno. Fifteen-inch aluminum wheels and a rear spoiler are included on all models of the Spark.

The Spark is equipped with 10 airbags, traction control and electronic stability control. Front disc and rear drum brakes include anti-lock braking, and hill start assist provides added vehicle safety. The OnStar system is included with all Spark models, and features emergency and crash response, roadside assistance and turn-by-turn navigation.

The 2013 Chevrolet Spark provides more interior room than its main competitors, the Fiat 500 and Scion iQ, and adds two additional doors for rear passenger comfort and convenience. The Spark packs a big punch for a minicar, offering both function and fun for the economy vehicle shopper.
