2014 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Overview
- Largest truck Chevrolet makes (Silverado 1500 and Silverado 2500HD)
- Two engine options, flex-fuel and DuraMax turbo-diesel
- Available in three cab sizes and with single- or deal-rear wheels
Chevrolet produces a pair of heavy-duty pickups, the biggest and baddest of them being the 2014 Silverado 3500HD.
The 2014 3500HD shares the same engine options with the 2500HD, but offers extra towing and cargo capability with a stronger box and a revised suspension. The base engine is a 360-horsepower, 6.0-liter V-8 that is flex-fuel (gas or ethanol) and makes a robust 380 pounds-feet of torque. For those who prefer diesel, a 397-horsepower, Duramax 6.6-liter Turbo-Diesel V-8 is also available, which makes a mind-blowing 765 pounds-feet of torque. Four-wheel drive is optional.
There are plenty of varieties of the Silverado 3500HD. Choose between three different cabs (regular, extended, and crew cab), two bed sizes (standard box and long box), and whether you want a single or dual rear wheel.
Inside, the 2014 Silverado 3500HD goes for function over luxury, but the cabin is still comfortable enough for long hauls and the large dials that can be operated even with gloves on are a welcome touch. For those who are still looking for amenities and technology in their work truck, they are available but generally not standard. A navigation system, heated and cooled seats, and a dealer-installed Wi-Fi hot spot system are optional.
