2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Overview (See Available Styles)

  • Two engine options (both V-8s), one gas/ethanol and one turbo-diesel
  • Offers more work capability than the Silverado 1500 light-duty pickup
  • Fuel economy ratings unavailable
For some jobs, a light-duty pickup just won’t cut it and that’s where the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD excels.

The Silverado 2500HD is everything you’d want out of a heavy-duty pickup: it’s big, it’s got oodles of power, and the interior is shaped to fit the form with large controls that can be operated even if the driver is wearing gloves.

Powertrain options include a pair of V-8s and rear- or four-wheel drive. The base engine is a 360-horsepower, 6.0-liter V-8 that is flex-fuel (gas or ethanol) and makes a robust 380 pounds-feet of torque. But the real peach is a 397-horsepower, Duramax 6.6-liter Turbo-Diesel V-8 is also available, which makes a mind-blowing 765 pounds-feet of torque. Towing capability is best with the diesel, topping out at 17,800 pounds (14,700 pounds for models with the flex-fuel V-8).

Fuel economy ratings are unavailable, as companies are not required to disclose them on heavy-duty vehicles.

Three cab sizes (regular, extended, and crew cab) are offered, as are two different bed sizes (standard box and long box). This allows plenty of customization when setting up the Silverado 2500HD for the task at hand.  There are also a few mechanical upgrades available, like a smart eaxhaust brake that helps to save the brakes on downgrades and trailering packages.

Inside, the 2014 Silverado 2500HD has a comfortable, but very simple cabin in base form. There aren’t many standard features to speak of, beyond air conditioning. However, for those who are still looking for amenities and technology in their work truck, the options list is rather extensive. A navigation system, heated and cooled seats, and a dealer-installed Wi-Fi hot spot system are optional.
