2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Overview

The 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD adds new exterior colors and a Z71 Appearance Package (available on LT and LTZ trims) that includes a body-colored bumper, grille with chrome mesh, foglamps, bright doorsill plates, and 18-inch aluminum wheels with all-terrain tires. Heated and cooled seats are new for the interior, while an updated trailer hitch receiver allows towing of up to 18,000 pounds when properly equipped. The Silverado is available in WT, LS, LT, and LTZ trims and is sandwiched between the entry level Silverado 1500 and super heavy-duty 3500.

A standard 360-horsepower, 6.0-liter V-8 gasoline engine generates 380 pounds of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The most powerful engine the Silverado 2500HD comes with is a 397-horsepower, 6.6-liter Duramax V-8 turbo-diesel that packs an astounding 765 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic Allison 1000 transmission with manual shift control. Rear-wheel drive comes standard for all models, with four-wheel drive optional. Choose between a traditional floor-mounted transfer case and an Autotrac knob-controlled electric transfer case that engages when wheel slippage is detected.

Fuel-efficiency ratings are quite impressive considering how powerful the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is. A 36-gallon fuel tank enables the Silverado 2500HD to travel up to 680 miles on a single tank and average 18.8 mpg in combined driving. Due to its high-strength, fully boxed steel frame, towing maxes out at 18,000 pounds, while the maximum payload capacity of 4,212 pounds is very, very impressive.

If anything, the 2012 Chevy Silverado 2500 is extremely versatile. Choose between Regular, Extended, and Crew Cab, as well as short (five-foot, nine-inch), standard (six-foot, six-inch) or long bed (eight-foot) lengths. A EZ tailgate, power sunroof, integrated trailer brake controls, power-sliding rear window, navigation system with integrated hard drive, Wi-Fi system, cloth or leather upholstery, and Bose audio system are all optional.

In terms of safety, the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is fully loaded. Rollover mitigation technology, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, trailer-sway control, hill start assist, parking sensors, a backup camera, and suite of airbags are in place to keep you as safe as possible.

Whether you are hauling your toys to the lake or working a job, the 2012 Chevy Silverado 2500HD pickup is more than capable.
