2009 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid Overview
After its arrival onto the hybrid scene just last year, the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid is back to showcase the same stylish and smart driving impressions and spacious interior that sets it apart just one step further with conscious hybrid performance.

Offered in one amenity-laden trim level, the Malibu Hybrid offers a small electric motor that initializes the 2.4-liter four cylinder gasoline engine and adds increased power until heavier cargo conditions. 164-horsepower and 159 pound-feet of torque are more-than-needed strength for intended uses. The American automaker also tweaked the software and mechanical calibrations this year in relation to the energy management and regenerative braking systems, good for increased fuel economy.

Competing in the same midsize sedan segment with the likes of the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Saturn Aura Hybrid and Nissan Sentra Hybrid, the Malibu Hybrid gets a similar split front grille and Corvette-inspired rear body shape that other Malibu’s will get. 17-inch aluminum wheels, automatic headlamps, power mirrors, a single chrome exhaust tip and optional sunroof are available exterior amenities. While nothing visible other than the “Hybrid” badges distinguish the regular and hybrid versions of the Malibu, 26 MPG city and 34 MPG highway gas mileage is a noticeable selling point for the Malibu Hybrid.

A unique instrument cluster on the Malibu Hybrid furthers driving ease, with a battery charge/assist gauge, a special "Eco" light and other gauges to assist drivers in maximizing fuel economy. Two, two-tone interior themes - Cocoa/Cashmere accents the cabin in beige, dark brown and wood trim or Titanium using two-tone grays – are available. A standard 60/40-split bench for hauling large items increases cargo capabilities, along with a 15.1 cubic foot trunk.

The Malibu Hybrid gets all of the safety features that has made Chevrolet an industry leader in this category. OnStar emergency response is standard, with advanced automatic crash notification, remote diagnostics, a monthly status report and Turn-By-Turn Navigation. Other included details include: side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags, antilock braking system, electronic stability control and traction control.

For the comfortable and quiet ride the regular Malibu provides, the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid takes value to the next level in terms of price and fuel efficiency that eco-conscious car buyers will surely debate in favor of during their final purchase decision.
