2009 Chevrolet Impala Overview
A blend of sports car and family sedan, the 2009 Chevrolet Impala lives up to its iconic name with a heavy dose of power, spacious interior and old-fashioned American style.
The Impala is available in four trim levels – LS, LT, LTZ, and SS. The LS is equipped with a 3.5-liter, 211-horsepower V-6 engine while a 3.9-liter, 233-horsepower V-6 comes standard on the LTZ and is available for the LT. Fuel economy for the LS, LT and LTZ range between 17-19 MPG city to 27-29 MPG highway. Both engines are flex-fuel ready meaning that they can operate on ethanol-based E85, receiving 13-14 MPG city and 20-22 MPG highway. As if those options weren’t enough to quench your thirst for power, the SS ups the ante with a 5.3-liter, 303-horsepower V-8 monster of an engine. The SS has an appetite like a monster when it comes to fuel economy with 16 MPG city and 24 MPG highway.
Competing against the likes of the Ford Taurus, Chrysler 300 and Toyota Avalon, the Impala SS has more power, while all trims have comparable fuel economy due to Active Fuel Management.
Adding to the already spacious interior is the segment exclusive Flip-and-Fold-Flat rear seat. Accommodate three passengers with the 60/40 seats in place, or fold them down to get the maximum amount of cargo space between the trunk and back seat.
Options include a power sunroof with sunshade, Bose® sound system with a CD/MP3 player, six-disc CD changer, and a standard auxiliary input jack to accommodate your iPod®. For those that live in extreme climate locations, the remote vehicle starter system, which is standard in the LT, LTZ and SS trims is a difference maker. Not only will you be able to start the Impala from 200 feet away, but you can warm up, cool down and defrost the rear window and outside mirrors before you open the door.
Standard four-wheel disc antilock brakes stop the vehicle with authority, while Electronic Traction Control and Corner Brake Control enhance driver control. Dual front airbags and head-curtain side impact airbags are both standard.
Chevrolet has taken an American classic and redressed it to include numerous power train options, innovative cargo/passenger space and interior amenities that focus on functionality. The 2009 Chevrolet Impala is a sedan to be reckoned with.
