2008 Chevrolet HHR Overview
Hip, utilitarian, spacious, and retro, the 2008 Chevrolet HHR combines voluminous cargo room with a tall stance in a unique package that harkens back to the original Chevrolet Suburban of the 1940s. The HHR is available in three trim levels – the basic LS, the well-equipped LT, and the new, high-performance SS. Standard is a 2.2 liter 4-cylinder engine making 149 horsepower, which is adequate but slightly underpowered. An optional 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 172 horsepower is a better choice. A crisp-shifting Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox is standard and a 4-speed automatic transmission with factory-installed remote starter system is optional. Two suspension packages are available – Touring and Sport – depending on your taste for comfort or handling. The SS features a turbocharged engine producing a lofty 260 horsepower and a 5-speed manual transmission with available limited-slip differential. Safety features include standard four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes offering excellent stopping ability and an optional electronic traction control system that minimizes wheel spin during takeoffs. StabiliTrak electronic stability control is standard on LT models, which enhances driver control and maneuverability in emergency situations. Dual-stage front airbags are standard, with front and rear outboard head-curtain and side impact airbags optional. Inside, cargo room is abundant, with a maximum volume of 57.7 cubic feet with the rear seat folded. Amenities are also plentiful and include an optional enhanced sound package with a 260-watt Pioneer premium seven-speaker sound system with in-dash six-disc CD changer with MP3 playback and XM® Satellite Radio. An optional power-sliding sunroof makes for open-air driving, while the standard auxiliary glove box adds storage flexibility. A selection of 16” and 17” aluminum wheels are available to customize the HHR, and an optional bright chrome exterior appearance package adds some visual flair. With optional foglamps, a custom rear spoiler, and available running boards, you can really trick it out. Wagons have definitely made a comeback, and the 2008 Chevrolet HHR is one of the best choices for performance and versatility. |
