2012 Chevrolet Express 3500 Overview
The 2012 Chevrolet Express 3500 passenger and cargo vans are the most versatile of the Express line, with multiple engine types and configurations available. The Express 3500 belongs to the same family of heavy-duty vans as the GMC Savana.
Cargo drivers can choose between the base model with a 135-inch wheelbase and the extended model with a 155-inch wheelbase. The rear-wheel drive Express 3500 is available with a 280-horsepower, 4.8-liter, V-8 Flex Fuel gas/ethanol E85 engine, with 373 pounds/feet of torque, 260-horsepower, 6.6-liter, V-8 turbo diesel, with 575 pounds/feet of torque, or 279-horsepower, 6.0-liter, V-8 compressed natural gas engine, with 320 pounds feet of torque. The Express 3500 comes with six-speed automatic transmission with tow/haul mode, tap-up/tap-down driver shift control, and auto-grade braking also has optional cruise control. Towing capacity is up to 10,00 pounds with the optional heavy-duty trailering equipment package, and a trailer hitch receiver is also available.
With a maximum cargo volume of 270-inches for the base van, and 313-inches for the extended van, the Express 3500 provides enough cargo capacity for even the biggest jobs. The swing out 60/40 passenger door may be upgraded to a sliding passenger-side door and remote release side panels can help make accessing tools and equipment easier. Front airbags are standard, and head curtain side-impact airbags are available. High-back, reclining bucket front seats and front air conditioning provide for a comfortable ride for driver and passenger.
The passenger Express 3500 has the same available engine types as the cargo model, and also comes in a 135-inch or 155-inch wheelbase, which can seat up to 15 passengers. Both the gas and diesel models are available in LS or LT trim levels. Power steering comes standard, and cruise control is available for a more comfortable driving experience.
Interior seating can be upgraded to cloth seating in the LS models and come standard in the LT models. The standard front air conditioning can be upgraded with optional climate control for rear passengers. SiriusXM satellite radio with three-month trial, CD player and MP3 playback are available upgrades to the standard AM/FM stereo system.
Standard safety features on the Express 3500 passenger van include frontal air bags, head-curtain side-impact airbags for the first three rows, four-wheel disc antilock brakes, traction and electronic stability control, and a tire pressure monitoring system. OnStar navigation and emergency with six-months of free service also comes standard in the passenger Express 3500. Remote keyless entry is available for the LS models and comes standard on the LT models.
