2012 Chevrolet Express 2500 Overview
The 2012 Chevrolet Express 2500 provides a functional heavy-duty full-size van that performs for both cargo and passenger applications. The Chevrolet Express is in the same vehicle family as the GMC Savana.
The cargo version of the Express 2500 is available in both a base (135-inch) wheelbase and extended (155-inch) wheelbase. It comes with rear-wheel drive and six-speed automatic transmission with tap-up/tap-down driver shift control, auto-grade braking and a tow/haul mode. Available engine types are the 280-horsepower, 4.8-liter, V-8 Flex Fuel gas/ethanol E85 engine, with 373 pounds/feet of torque, or the 260-horsepower, 6.6-liter turbo-diesel, V-8 engine, with 575 pounds/feet of torque. The compressed natural gas (CNG) option has a 279-horsepower, 6.0-liter, V-8, with 320 pounds/feet of torque. All cargo models of the 2500 Express have a towing capacity of up to 10,000 pounds with the available heavy-duty trailering equipment package.
The 2500 Express cargo model has a cargo volume of 270 cubic feet, and the extended model adds over 43 additional cubic feet of storage for a total volume of 313.0 cubic feet. Front air conditioning and air bags are standard (head curtain side-impact airbags are optional), and driver and passenger can ride in comfort with front high-back, reclining bucket seats. A swing-out 60/40 passenger door and rear doors are standard, and a driver’s side hinged entry/load door is available for easy access to tools and equipment. Remote release side panels are also available.
The passenger Express 2500 is only available in the 135-inch wheelbase, and comes with a 280-horsepower, 4.8-liter, V-8 Flex Fuel gas/ethanol E85 engine with 295 pounds/feet of torque, and a towing capacity of 9800 pounds. It has the same rear-wheel drive and six-speed automatic transmission as the cargo version, with tow/haul mode. Cruise control is available for more comfortable driving on long trips.
Up to 12 passengers can be accommodated in the passenger Express 2500, and the standard swing-out 60/40 passenger-side door can be upgraded to a sliding passenger-side door. Power windows and door locks, and driver and front passenger power adjustment seating are also optional. Passenger comfort may be enhanced with available rear air conditioning and heater, and cloth seating. Bluetooth wireless calling and SiruisXM satellite radio with three-month trial are also available.
Frontal and head curtain side-impact air bags come standard on the passenger Express 2500. OnStar, with automatic crash response and other emergency services, is also standard and includes free service for six-months. On-road safety is enhanced with a stability enhancement system, traction control, four-wheel disc antilock brakes, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Optional features include a defogger, remote keyless entry, and remote vehicle start.
