The all-wheel drive Express 1500 WT and all passenger versions come equipped with a 310-horsepower, 5.3-liter, V-8 gas/ethanol engine, with 334 pounds/feet of torque and a maximum towing capacity of 6500 pounds. All versions of the Express 1500 have a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, four-wheel disc brakes and ABS.
The rear-wheel drive Express 1500 LS has optional remote keyless entry, power doors and windows, while these features come standard on the LT. The all-wheel drive also includes an optional third-passenger door and optional aluminum wheels. The LT offers a chrome appearance package to add a touch of style. A trailer hitch receiver is optional on all trim levels.
The rear-wheel passenger Express 1500 can be customized with an available CD player, optional power driver and front passenger seats, and the standard leatherette seats on the LS can be upgraded to cloth, which are standard on the LT. SiriusXM Satellite radio, with three-month trial, is an option for the rear-wheel Express 1500, and is standard with the all-wheel drive. Bluetooth wireless calling is optional on all trim levels. The all-wheel drive Express 1500 offers optional rear air conditioning and custom cloth seating for the LS trim level, standard for the LT.
All trim levels include driver and front passenger airbags, side-impact curtain airbags for driver and all passengers, traction and stability control, anti-theft and tire pressure monitoring as standard safety features. OnStar, with automatic crash response, emergency services, roadside assistance and other safety and convenience features, is an available option and free for six-months, as are remote keyless entry and remote vehicle start.
Overall, the 2012 Chevrolet Express 1500 provide good interior space, towing and cargo-hauling capacity. Drawbacks include a low fuel economy rating of 13 to 15 mpg in the city and 17 to 20 mpg on the highway, limited maneuverability and driving noise. With multiple configurations and trim levels, the 2012 Express 1500 is solid choice for a light duty cargo or passenger van.
