2008 Chevrolet Equinox Overview
Attempting to inject some muscle into the lineup, a brand new Sport model highlights the changes for the 2008 Chevrolet Equinox. A muscular body shape, a choice of powerful engines, and impressive cargo flexibility are the major strengths of this midsize SUV. Available in four trim lines – LS, LT, LTZ, and Sport – the Equinox features a standard 3.4 liter V6 engine with 185 horsepower teamed to a 5-speed automatic with Adaptive Learning Capability, which selects various shift points for smooth, consistent shifting and solid acceleration. The new Sport model boasts a 264-horsepower 3.5 liter V6, a tuned exhaust, and 6-speed manumatic transmission, offering substantial thrust and manual shifting capability. Front-wheel drive is standard, while optional on-demand all-wheel drive automatically engages to provide added traction and control in a variety of weather conditions. The supremely flexible interior includes a multi-flex rear seat with a 60/40 split and fold-flat front passenger seat to accommodate large items and create 35.2 cubic feet of cargo space. Audio highlights include an available Pioneer® premium sound system, in-dash six-disc CD changer, auxiliary input jack for your iPod®, and XM® Radio – creating a world-class sonic experience. The available DVD entertainment system includes a 7-inch flip-down monitor and wireless headphones to delight rear seat passengers on long trips. Available heated front bucket seats with leather inserts add a greater level of comfort for driver and front passenger. Safety features include four-wheel antilock brakes, which help prevent wheel lockup during hard braking. The standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control system improves vehicle control during emergency maneuvers and includes Proactive Roll Avoidance to reduce the vehicle’s propensity to roll over in a panic situation. The standard Traction Control System helps to prevent wheelspin on slippery surfaces. Standard dual front airbags and head-curtain side-impact airbags help reduce the risk of injury in a collision. The 2008 Chevrolet Equinox is a competitive, stylish midsize SUV with the flexibility to handle a variety of driving and hauling duties. |
