2008 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 Overview
When Chevrolet introduced the Avalanche in 2002, it was an immediate hit due to its blend of pickup truck versatility and SUV roominess. Fresh off last year’s redesign, the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche offers a rugged stance, powerful engine choices, and unique cargo flexibility. With 2WD or 4x4 capability, it can meet a variety of on-road and off-road duties. The fuel economy has also been improved to achieve upward of 20 MPG. Available in three trim levels – LS, LT, and LTZ – the Avalanche features a choice of V8 engines. The 5.3 liter V8 with Active Fuel Management can deactivate up to four cylinders to maximize fuel savings, and is available in an E85 FlexFuel version which can run on ethanol. A larger, more powerful 6.0 liter V8 is available, making 366 horsepower. A four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard, offering smooth shifts and tow/haul mode. With standard 2WD and the 6.0 liter engine, it offers a maximum towing capacity of 8,200 lbs. The innovative pickup bed features a trick midgate, which can be folded into the four-door cab, extending the cargo bed to the back of the front seats. It provides the best of both worlds: seating for up to six occupants or an extra-long cargo bed. The available Z71 off-road package includes an upgraded suspension and wheels, automatic locking rear differential for superior traction, high-pressure shocks, a skid plate package to protect the undercarriage, and a host of exterior upgrades. Standard 4-wheel anti-lock brakes prevent wheel lockup and shorten stopping distances. The StabiliTrak electronic stability control enhances vehicle stability during emergency maneuvers. Standard dual front airbags and dual head-curtain side impact airbags reduce the risk of injury in a collision. Optional ultrasonic rear parking assist features audio and visual signals to help alert you if an object is behind the vehicle. Interior amenities include a rearview camera system, integrated with the optional navigation system. An optional Bose® seven speaker stereo system with CD/MP3/DVD player can be combined with an optional rear-seat entertainment system for maximum enjoyment. So, is it an SUV or a pickup? Whatever it is, the rugged, infinitely flexible 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche is the automotive equivalent of a Swiss army knife. |
