2012 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid Overview
With its head-turning style, and enhanced fuel efficiency, the 2012 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid is proof that you can have it all.
Like all other Escalade models, the Hybrid receives minor changes to the navigation system and more anti-theft features. Unlike other Escalade models, the Hybrid features a 2-Mode Hybrid system, meaning that it operates on electric power alone while at low speeds until more power is needed. A 332-horsepower, 6.0-liter V-8 is paired with two electric motors and an automatic transmission. Fuel economy estimates are up from 13/14 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway in the gas-only models to 20/23 mpg in the Escalade Hybrid. Just because it’s a hybrid doesn’t mean that it can’t participate in tasks that gas-only SUVs do. Two-wheel drive Escalade Hybrids get maximum towing capacity (compared to four-wheel drive) of 5,800 pounds so you can take your luxury SUV into the wild.
Because it’s a Cadillac, the 2012 Escalade Hybrid has a smooth ride, due to Cadillac’s Magnetic Ride Control, which uses electronically controlled shock absorbers, allowing the Escalade to react to the road more quickly. The Escalade Hybrid is available in Standard and Platinum trims and competes with the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid and the GMC Yukon Hybrid. Because it’s a hybrid, the Standard trim level comes with several features that are optional on gas-only versions. A power liftgate, 22-inch chromed aluminum-alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, a backup camera, xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights, and hybrid badges on the front fenders, C-pillars and liftgate are all part of the package. Step it up (literally) with power-retractable running boards, 22-inch wheels, chromed-accented body side molding, side vents and door handles, a moonroof and LED headlights in the Platinum trim.
The 2012 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid seats up to eight passengers in three rows of seats. Choose between a second row bench and captain’s chairs for desired occupancy. Leather interior, heated and cooled power front seats, a tri-zone automatic climate control, Bose 5.1 surround sound system, Bluetooth connectivity, touch-screen navigation system and USB/iPod port are all standard. Platinum models feature wood trim, heated and cooled cup holders, exclusive Cocoa/Light Linen interior and a Dual front headrest DVD screens with rear entertainment system. The Escalade Hybrid’s instrument cluster adds a gauge that monitors efficiency.
Safety features for the 2012 Escalade Hybrid include: antilock brakes, side-impact airbags for the front seats, three-row side curtain airbags and an electronic stability system with rollover-mitigation technology.
