2012 Cadillac CTS Overview
Available in three body styles, the 2012 Cadillac CTS boasts head-turning styling, flexible powertrain choices, and plenty of luxury amenities.
For 2012, the CTS line gets a new, lighter 3.6-liter V6 direct-injection engine with 318 horsepower. That’s 5% more power than the 2011 version; yet, the engine retains its EPA estimated mileage of 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway for most models. Also new for 2012 is a bold grille design, standard Bluetooth® on all models, three new exterior paint colors, and an available Touring Package.
The CTS is available as a 4-door Sedan, 2-door Coupe, or in Sport Wagon configuration. The Coupe is the sportiest of the three with a shorter, lower profile and distinctive styling features that sets it apart from the Sedan. It comes only with the new 3.6-liter V6 engine while the Sedan and Sport Wagon start with a base 3.0-liter V6 engine. The Sport Wagon offers 25 cubic feet of storage behind the rear seat, and opens up to nearly 54 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. The Sedan and Coupe are not cargo friendly with just 13.6 and 10.5 cubic feet, respectively.
The 3.0-liter V6 is rated at 270 horsepower with the dual-exhaust option; however, EPA estimated fuel economy is no better than the 3.6-liter option. It fact, it’s actually worse at 18/26 with the all-wheel-drive option. A choice of 6-speed manual or automatic transmission is available, and all models can be equipped with all-wheel-drive.
Four trim levels are offered: base and Luxury for the 3.0-liter engine, and Performance and Premium for the 3.6-liter engines. The new Touring Package is available only on Luxury and Premium trims. It includes unique wheels (18-inch painted pearl nickel on Luxury, and 19-inch polished alloy on Premium), suede-trimmed steering wheel, sport pedals, chromed door handles, suede seat inserts, wood trim, and Recaro performance seats (Premium only).
Soft-touch materials, attractive surfaces, and LED lighting enhance the luxury atmosphere of the interior. A Bose 5.1 surround sound audio system with 10 speakers, satellite radio, navigation and 40-gig hard drive is available.
Competing against such spirited segment leaders as the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-class, and Acura TL, the CTS responds with different 4-wheel independent suspension packages to suit individual driving tastes and conditions.
Standard safety features include electronic stability control, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, seat-mounted side airbags, side-curtain airbags, OnStar, rear-view camera and rear parking assist. In government crash tests, the 2012 CTS wagon and sedan received an overall 5-star rating (the Coupe was not tested). The IIHS gives the CTS its highest rating in frontal-offset and side-impact crash tests, and is a Top Safety Pick for 2012.
The 2012 Cadillac CTS line offers a pleasant balance of luxury and performance that comes close to rivaling its well-established German competition while shaping a distinctive character portrait for itself.
