2014 Kia Cadenza Sedan Overview
- Brand new model for 2014, Kia’s first full-size sedan in four years
- Six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters
- Lots of included technology features, including Kia’s UVO entertainment system
Making its debut for the 2014 model year is Kia’s latest new car, the Cadenza.
The 2014 Cadenza is Kia’s first full-size model since the unloved Amanti bowed out in 2009. But while the Amanti was plagued by an unremarkable appearance, the Cadenza corrects that fatal flaw with a sculpted exterior that replaces anonymity with elegance. The front is dominated by a version of Kia’s signature pinched grille, which is made even more prominent by the headlight clusters being pulled back from it some six-inches on either side. Automatic headlights and power-folding, heated side mirrors are standard, while a panoramic sunroof with powered shade is a welcome option.
Under the hood, there is only one engine/transmission combination: a 293-horsepower, direct-injected 3.3-liter V-6 that is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with standard paddle shifters for more control over gear changes. The front-wheel drive Cadenza returns decent, but not great fuel economy figures at 19/28 mpg city/highway. Other mechanical features include electric power steering which increases efficiency and a four-wheel independent suspension. Kia’s electric power steering systems tend to veer towards the lighter side in regards to road feel, but for a cruiser like the Cadenza this is actually a benefit.
Inside, the Cadenza offers plenty of passenger room and like most Kia models, plenty in the way of standard features. Leather upholstery, a 10-way adjustable power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, push-button start, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror with HomeLink remote controls are standard. There is also plenty of technology packed into the Cadenza, with Bluetooth connectivity, USB/iPod input, an Infinity premium audio system, navigation system with an eight-inch LCD screen, and Kia’s UVO infotainment system also coming on every Cadenza model. If you’re looking to gussy up the Cadenza even more, premium Nappa leather seating, heated front and rear seats, a power-adjustable steering column, and a power rear sunshade are optional.
Standard safety features on the Cadenza include the government mandated antilock brakes and electronic stability systems, as well as side-impact airbags front and rear and side curtain airbags, a backup camera, and rear parking sensors. There is also a slew of available safety technology, including blind spot detection, advanced smart cruise control, and lane departure warning. The 2014 Cadenza has not been crash tested as of the writing, but the redesigned versions of Kia’s other passenger cars have done well on IIHS crash tests.
