2009 Buick Lucerne Overview
As far as entry level full-size luxury sedans go, the 2009 Buick Lucerne blends V-8 power, abundant safety features and cutting-edge technology to compliment its smooth handling.

The Lucerne is available in three trim levels – the balanced CX, the more loaded CXL, and the top-of-the-line CXS. CX and CXL models share a 3.7-liter V-6 engine with 227- horsepower, which supplies ample acceleration. The CXS features a more powerful 4.6- liter V-8 engine, with 275-horsepower for easier passing and merging on the freeway. Both engines are mated to a four-speed automatic transmission that shifts smoothly. Magnetic Ride Control is available on the CXS, which improves handling and road feel. The Lucerne gets 15-17 MPG in the city and 22-26 MPG on the highway and competes with the Hyundai Azera and Toyota Avalon.

Interior options are plentiful. Dual-zone climate control allows individual settings for driver and front passenger, while available power front seats can be ordered with leather and heating functionality. An available power tilt-sliding sunroof lets in the cool breezes. For the true audiophile, a harman/kardon 280-watt, 9-speaker audio system with 6-disc CD player and MP3 capability is available in combination with XM Satellite Radio and an auxiliary input jack to accommodate personal MP3 players.

Two new safety options are available. The optional radar-based Side Blind Zone Alert helps keep you safe by alerting you to vehicles you can't see using alternating beams of radar to sweep adjacent lanes of traffic. Cars entering those zones will trigger an alert in the corresponding outside rearview mirror. A camera-based Lane-Departure Warning keeps you on track if you drift into another lane, triggering both an audio and visual warning from the instrument panel. Standard dual front airbags, side impact airbags, and rear outboard head curtain airbags are standard on all trim levels. Standard 4-wheel antilock brakes with dynamic rear proportioning stop the vehicle with authority and balance. StabiliTrak monitors directional status to provide help if the vehicle is off track. Rear Parking Assist uses ultrasonic waves and a rearview LED display to provide a view of what’s behind the car.

The 2009 Buick Lucerne is as beautiful as it is fun, luxurious, powerful and safe—all the qualities that foreign competitors long for.
