2012 Buick LaCrosse Overview
The 2012 Buick LaCrosse features a base-model hybrid engine, optional V-6 engine, elegant style and comfortable interior for five passengers in their mid-size luxury vehicle.
Buick replaced the four-cylinder engine in the LaCrosse with its new eAssist hybrid engine for 2012. This 182-horsepower, 2.4-liter, inline four-cylinder engine is partnered with a 15-kilowat electric motor, lithium-ion battery pack, six-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive and is standard in the base-model LeCrosse and three additional trim levels. A more powerful 303-horsepower, 3.6-liter, V-6 gas/E85 engine with six-speed automatic transmission is available and comes equipped with choice of front- or all-wheel drive.
Fuel economy for the eAssist engine is rated at 25 mpg for the city and 36 mpg on the highway, a marked improvement from last year’s all-gasoline four-cylinder engine, which was rated at 19 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The V6 model of the LaCrosse is rated at 16 to 17 mpg in the city and 26 to 27 mpg on the highway.
The base and Convenience models of the LaCrosse feature cloth upholstery, and leather upholstery is available with model upgrades. An eight-way power driver’s seat is standard for all models, and upgrades include four-way power adjust for the driver, and eight-way power adjust for the front passenger. The rear passenger seating is generous for three passengers, and front and rear armrests and cupholders are provided for additional passenger comfort. The seven-speaker audio system includes a USB port and 8-inch LED display screen. Buick’s IntelliLink offer a voice command system and integrates with smart phones to connect to Pandora and other mobile applications. Premium audio upgrades include Harman/Kardon surround sound audio and navigation system with 80-GB hard drive for audio file storage. A rear seat entertainment system is available and includes two flip-up displays and DVD player. Convenience upgrades include a universal home remote with programmable garage door opener and integration with home security systems, remote vehicle starting system to pre-heat or cool the vehicle, and heated and ventilated front seats and heated steering wheel. An available three-prong 120V power outlet allows for charging of laptops, phones and other electronic devices.
The distinctive large front grille on the LaCrosse includes active front shutters on the eAssist model that open or close to improve aerodynamics. Design elements feature body-color door handles with chrome strips and rear body-color spoiler. Seventeen-inch machined alloy wheels are standard, and upgrades include 18-inch chrome-plated or machine-faced alloy wheels, or 19-inch wheels with five- or nine-spoke design. Halogen headlights include automatic on and off sensors for evening, tunnel, or inclement weather driving, and can be upgraded to xenon high-intensity headlights.
The LaCrosse is outfitted with front- and side-impact airbags for front passengers and side curtain airbags for both front and rear passengers. Four-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability and traction control systems are standard, and collision and emergency response services are included with the OnStar system, included with a six-month subscription. Available safety upgrades include a driver heads-up display, rear vision camera and parking assist, blind-spot warning system and rear-seat thorax airbags.
The 2012 Buick LaCrosse offers improved fuel economy over previous models and doesn’t compromise on quality or driving experience.
