2012 BMW Z4 Overview

BMW has several options when it comes to convertibles, but none are as sweet as the 2012 BMW Z4 roadster.

The 2012 BMW Z4 is available in three trims: sDrive28i, sDrive35i and sDrive35is with. The sDrive28i and its turbocharged four-cylinder engine replaces the sDrive30i and its six-cylinder engine. The new sDrive28i features a 240-horsepower, TwinPower turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder that generates 260 pounds-feet of torque and is estimated to be 20 percent more efficient that the sDrive30i’s six-cylinder when paired with the standard six-speed manual transmission. Fuel economy is an awesome 22-24 mpg in the city and 33-34 mpg on the highway.

Powering the sDrive35i is a 300-horsepower, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that creates 300 pounds-feet of torque and can be mated to an optional seven-speed automated dual-clutch manual (DCT). The sDrive35si has an enhanced 335-horsepower, 3.0-liter inline-six with 332 pounds-feet of torque, which can increase to 369 pounds-feet when overboost is activated for an explosive zero to 60 time of five seconds. EPA-estimated fuel economy for both 3.0-liter engines is 17-19/24-26 mpg. The 2012 BMW Z4 competes with the Audi TT, Mercedes-Benz SLK, Nissan 370Z and Porsche Boxster in the luxury roadster segment.

The Z4’s retractable hardtop roof can stow with the push of a button in just 20 seconds so you can enjoy the warmth of the sun. Just because the 2012 Z4 is a convertible doesn’t mean it is bereft of storage space. A behind-the-seat storage bench and optional through-load storage area for longer items like golf clubs and skis means you don’t have to give up your hobbies to enjoy roadster perfection. Xenon adaptive headlights with auto-leveling, 17-inch Star Spoke alloy wheels, heated external mirrors and heated glass window are standard exterior features. Eighteen-inch alloy wheels, unique tailpipes, bumpers, mirrors and an Aerodynamic kit, with specially shaped front and rear aprons are optional.

The interior of the two-seat 2012 BMW Z4 is designed with top-down driving in mind. Sun-reflective leather keeps surfaces cool on a sunny day, while heated seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, leather-upholstered dash and door panels are optional. BMW revised its iDrive technology, which streamlines your audio/navigation and other settings.

When it comes to safety, BMW has your back. Front and seat-mounted side-impact airbags, four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, a stability system, traction control, head-protection extension on side airbags and knee airbags are standard. Automatic high beams and park distance control are optional.

Enjoy the wind and the sun while you zip around town in the stylish and refined 2012 BMW Z4.
