2011 BMW Z4 Overview
With a new, more powerful trim, the 2011 BMW Z4 roadster is the perfect car for perfect weather.
The Z4 gets an upgrade this year, with an all-new high-performance trim: sDrive35is. It joins the existing sDrive30i and sDrive35i to round out the Z4 family. As with all BMW’s, the trims are divided by the engines they house. The sDrive30i has a 255-horsepower, 3.0-liter inline-six engine; the sDrive35i gets a 300-horsepower, twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six, while an all-new 335-horsepower, twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder powers the sDrive35is. The power is directed through a six-speed manual or automatic transmission (30i), a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic (35i), or a dual-clutch seven-speed automatic (35is). All Z4’s feature rear wheel drive for racy driving dynamics, and the sDrive35is tops out at 369 pounds-feet of torque, bolting from zero to 60 in just 4.7 seconds.
The sDrive35is also features recalibrated power steering and suspension tuning for a tighter ride, while all Z4’s have Driving Dynamics Control, which allows you to customize the driving feel of your Z4 through Normal, Sport, and Sport Plus modes. These powertrains yield 17-19 mpg in the city and 24-28 mpg on the highway. Power is better than the base motor of the Mercedes-Benz SLK and the Audi TT, and fuel economy slots in between these two competitors. The 2011 BW Z4 benefits from a standard retractable power hard top, so you can enjoy top-down driving or a safe, quiet coupe environment – either is available at the push of a button.
The 2011 BMW Z4 sits on standard 17-inch alloy wheels, while 18- and 19-inchers are optional. Automatic high beams, an aerodynamic kit which emulates the look of the sDrive35is, and high-end tailpipes/mirrors are optional. Inside the Z4, expect to find sophistication and high-tech gadgetry in every corner. Leather upholstery, sport seats, and a new Citrus Yellow Package which adds yellow appointments to the interior are all optional. BMW’s iDrive system is featured on a larger 8.8-inch screen and along with the optional navigation system has been revamped with more shortcut keys, better graphics, and improved menu functionality. For those who love their music, the 2011 Z4 has an adapter for your iPhone, iPod, or MP3 player and a built in hard drive, which allows you to make your own playlists on the go. HD and SIRIUS Satellite Radio along with an optional premium hi-fi system will make you never want to leave the car.
The 2011 Z4 features disc brakes at each corner, as well as antilock and brake assist systems. Other standard safety features include front and seat-mounted side impact airbags, knee airbags, traction control, and an electronic stability system.
The Germans have done it again. They have successfully fused performance, style, and luxury into the impressive 2011 BMW Z4.
