2010 BMW X6 Overview
Compact and sleek, the performance-minded 2010 BMW X6 is well equipped with two capable engine choices that will have you cruising in style.

The 2010 BMW X6 sports activity coupe (SAC) as dubbed by the manufacturer, even though it’s more of a cross between a four-door sedan and a midsize SUV, but actually looks like a crossover, is available in xDrive35i and xDrive50i trim levels and heavily armed with two potent engine options. They include a 3.0-liter inline-6—one that puts out 300 horses and another that exerts 320 horses (xDrive35i)—and a 4.4-liter V-8 with outputs of 400 and 440 horses (xDrive50i). Both are coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission with auto-manual shift. In demonstration of the SUV’s raw power, the V-8 is capable of accelerating from 0-60 in just 5.3 seconds. EPA estimated fuel economy ratings range between 13-15 mpg in the city and 18-21 mpg on the highway.

Rivaling the Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz-M Class, the all-wheel-drive (xDrive) 2010 BMW X6 sits atop standard 19-inch wheels with run-flat tires or optional 20-inch wheels. From the exterior, the X6 resembles a raised and slightly lengthened Z4 and features black moldings around the twin grilles, a monotone front bumper and sloping roofline. A power liftgate is now standard and automatic high-beam headlights are a new option.

Inside, the 2010 BMW X6 is adorned in leather trim and seats four occupants. Hardware includes a navigation system with voice activation and BMW’s iDrive, which utilizes an LCD screen and console-mounted dial to control audio, climate and communication functions. Sounds are provided by a 10-speaker sound system with a CD player and HD radio that can be controlled via the steering wheel. Available features include dual-zone climate control with settings for each rear passenger and heated front and rear seats.

For 2010, the BMW X6 features Dynamic Performance Control differential with electronic stability and traction control systems designed to maximize stability. In addition, the xDrive50i now has upgraded brakes with aluminum calipers. Other standard safety technologies include four-wheel-disc antilock brakes, side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain airbags for both rows.

While lacking in the area of cargo volume, the luxurious 2010 BMW X6 “sports activity coupe” more than makes up for this imperfection with debilitating performance and handling.
