BMW X5 vs. Mercedes-Benz M-Class Review

The BMW X5 will most certainly prove friendlier than the Mercedes-Benz M-Class for those of you with frequent kid-cargo. There's no clear winner between the M-Class and the BMW X5 with respect to transporting cargo. The Mercedes-Benz M-Class outpulls the BMW by a massive margin.

Performance
With respect to horsepower, the BMW X5 packs quite a punch and will knock the Mercedes-Benz M-Class down a few rungs. On the flip side, note that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.

Dimensions
The BMW X5's tank is roughly the same size as the Mercedes-Benz M-Class's, though the Mercedes-Benz M-Class's is a tad larger. The Mercedes-Benz M-Class and the BMW X5 compete for the same parking spaces.

Convenience
The BMW X5's fuel tank will need to be replenished a bit more often than the unit in the Mercedes-Benz M-Class.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs roughly the same to get the BMW to the dealership as the Mercedes-Benz M-Class. In terms of fuel economy, the BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz M-Class don't differ much. Producing an accurate gas mileage evaluation is so tough that some think not even the federal government can do it, but it looks as though both the BMW X5 and the BMW X5 perform roughly comparably as far as fuel economy. In terms of MSRP, the Mercedes-Benz M-Class doesn't cost much less than the BMW X5.

Handling
With its tighter turning circle, the Mercedes-Benz M-Class is most certainly more agile than the BMW, something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; on the other hand, note that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the highway.

Drivetrain
The Mercedes-Benz M-Class's engine is substantially more sizeable than the X5's. Bear in mind that bigger engines may use more gasoline than smaller ones. The X5 could learn a lesson or two from the Mercedes-Benz M-Class with respect to torque. Torque equals pickup, and the M-Class will have picked up and gone by the time the BMW finally gets moving.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the Mercedes-Benz M-Class offers a bit more head room than the X5, there really isn't much of a difference. The ampler interior dimensions of the Mercedes-Benz M-Class make it considerably more spacious for your passengers than the BMW.

Warranty
The Mercedes-Benz M-Class and the BMW have the same basic warranty.
