2012 BMW X3 Overview
Rarely do you see an entry-level luxury crossover contain so many high-class cutting-edge features as the 2012 BMW X3.
After going through an extensive redesign last year, the X3 receives an M Sport Package with body-colored bumpers, a sport-tuned suspension and performance wheels. The new BMW Apps feature integrates with the state-of-the-art ConnectedDrive system including Mobile Office. Altogether, it displays smartphone emails and text messages on the iDrive screen when stationary and reads them to you while driving. Other luxury crossovers include the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, Cadillac SRX, Infiniti EX35 and Volvo XC60.
Choose between two very capable engines in the 2012 BMW X3. A 240-horsepower, 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder in the xDrive28i and a 300-horsepower, turbocharged inline-six in the xDrive35i. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control and have BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which sends 60 percent of the torque to the rear wheels for better balance. Depending on the conditions, xDrive can automatically send 100 percent of the power to the rear. EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings are 19 mpg in the city and 25-26 mpg on the highway. For added handling, variable sport steering, performance control and Dynamic Damper Control are more than capable of getting the job done.
Choose between standard 17-inch alloy wheels and optional 18- or 19-inch wheels for enhanced style. Headlight washers, a power liftgate, xenon headlights, adaptive light control, retractable headlight washers, roof rails and a panoramic moonroof are optional. Last year’s redesign wasn’t just a stylistic makeover, but a functional one as well. Cabin space was increased inside the 2012 BMW X3 giving more legroom and elbowroom for up to five occupants. Receive maximum cargo flexibility with a 40/20/40-split rear seat.
Because it’s a BMW, the 2012 X3 does not disappoint when it comes to interior comfort and technology. For those interested in a livelier look and feel, the Sport Activity Package features a sports leather steering wheel and sport seats, while the Technology Package boasts a DVD-based, or hard drive-based navigation system, real time traffic information and rear view camera with top view. Heated front seats, leather upholstery, a 12-speaker stereo, USB adapter and head-up display are also optional.
Safety is standard in the 2021 BMW 2012 X3 in the form of side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags, an electronic stability system, traction control and four-wheel-disc antilock brakes.
Perfect for the family and for looking cool, the 2012 BMW X3 luxury crossover is a solid buy.
