2014 BMW M5 Overview

Vehicle Overview
The five-seat M5 is BMW's high-performance variant of the 5 Series sedan. It's powered by a twin-turbo V-8 engine that makes a whopping 560 horsepower and 500 pounds-feet of torque in its regular form. Offered with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, the M5 will sprint to 60 mph in the low-four-second range, according to BMW. Competitors include the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, Audi S6 and Cadillac CTS-V sport sedans.

Exterior Highlights
The 2014M5 features aggressive styling cues differentiate the M5 from the regular 5 Series. Standard features include rear spoiler, quad exhaust tips, M blue-painted brake calipers; carbon-ceramic brake system optional, and adaptive xenon high-intensity-discharge headlamps; full-LED headlamps optional. 19-inch wheels come standard, with 20- inch wheels optional, and power tilt/sliding moon roof standard. Optional power trunk lid and soft-close doors available.

Interior Highlights
The interior features signature M multicontour seats trimmed in Merino leather, aluminum trim all around, and a 10.2-inch screen for iDrive and navigation system. Heated front seats come standard, with available ventilated seats. Additional features include heated rear seats and steering wheel, Bang & Olufsen premium stereo, and rear-seat entertainment system.

Under the Hood
The standard M5 comes with a 560-hp, twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 with 500 pounds-feet of torque, with the Competition Package increasing the engine output to 575-hp. Six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, with launch control on models with the dual-clutch transmission. The engine also features fuel-saving auto stop-start technology and regenerative braking, adjustable dampers with three modes and adjustable steering effort. Active M rear differential comes standard for exceptional handling.

Safety Features
The M comes with a variety of standard safety options including antilock brakes, electronic stability system with traction control, side curtain airbags, front-seat side-impact airbags, parking sensors, and backup camera. Available night vision with pedestrian detection and Driver Assistance Package features lane departure warning, blind spot warning and additional cameras for enhanced visibility, optional.
