2011 BMW 740 Overview
Back with a V-6 vengeance, the 2011 BMW 740 sedan is reinserted to the 7 Series lineup as an efficient alternative to the über-powerful horses in the 7 Series stable.
The 7 Series is BMW’s flagship series and is at the top of the German luxury manufacturers sedan food chain. There are three distinct models: 740, 750 and 760, each larger trim number corresponding to a larger engine. The 740 sedan is featured in regular (740i) and extended wheelbase (740Li) trims, and is powered by a 315-horsepower, 3.0-liter Twinpower Turbo inline V-6 which is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with auto/manual modes. Even though the 740 might be down on power compared to its larger siblings, it still scoots from zero to 60 mph in only 5.8 seconds, which is plenty quick and about the same as the V-8 powered Lexus LS 460. And if the speed and power of the 740 wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, know that it gets 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
Resting on 18-inch wheels, the 2011 BMW 740 boasts a sunroof, adaptive xenon headlights, foglights, and automatic wipers, which accompany BMW’s classic grille and sleek lines on the exterior. The 740 seats five and if you want more legroom for your occupants, or more space for your cargo, the 740Li offers 5.5 extra inches of room.
Numerous luxurious amenities can be found in every corner of the 2011 740i and 740Li. It all begins with Dakota leather upholstery, four-zone automatic climate control, remote trunk release, high-gloss wood trim, park distance control, hard drive-based navigation system with voice commands and real time traffic information, start/stop ignition button, and cruise control. A hi-fi 10-speaker sound system with two subwoofers, HD Radio, and 12 GB hard drive with USB port and auxiliary input jack can accommodate all of your music, and also comes standard. If you want to take it to the next level, 19- and 20-inch alloy wheels, a six-disc DVD changer, premium audio system, power tailgate, and front ventilated seats are also available.
If you’re worried about being safe, know that the 2011 BMW 740 carries some of the latest safety technology in cars today. Night vision with pedestrian detection helps detect people and animals using infrared technology during night driving, while blind spot detection and lane departure warning help keep you in your lane when the one next to you is occupied. A full suite of airbags, active head restraints, crash sensors, antilock brakes, and electronic stability control system are standard, while BMW Assist (which connects you with roadside assistance) with Bluetooth® connectivity is optional.
If you want a luxury sedan that embodies refinement, while boasting a powerful, yet efficient V-6 engine, then the high-tech and safe 2011 BMW 740 is the car for you.
