2014 BMW 535d Overview
Offered with either rear- or all-wheel drive, the 535d is powered by a turbo-diesel 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that makes 255 horsepower and 413 pounds-feet of torque. Competitors include the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6 and Infiniti M.
The 5 series features a shared platform with the bigger 7 series sedan. The front is fitted with standard adaptive xenon headlamps; full LED headlamps optional, and LED taillights. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels (528i) standard, with 18- and 19-inch rims available. The 5 series comes standard with power sunroof and heated side mirrors.
The BMW features a standard iDrive navigation system with 10.2-inch screen, ten-way power front seats, automatic dual-zone air conditioning, and power tilt/telescoping steering wheel. Additional features include head-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, rear-seat entertainment system, and Harman Kardon surround-sound stereo.
Under the Hood
The 535d features a turbo-diesel 355-HP, 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. All trims come rear-wheel drive, but have the option for all-wheel drive. Additional engine technology include Adaptive Drive system includes active roll stabilization, adaptive suspension and customizable settings for the drivetrain and suspension. Active Steering varies the steering ratio to render easier turning at low speeds and stable handling at high speeds optional and adaptive cruise control includes full stop-and-go capabilities to manage heavy traffic also optional.
The 5-series features side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints for passenger protection. Antilock brakes and electronic stability system come standard. Blind spot monitoring system, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with collision warning system all optional.
