2012 BMW 535 Exterior

2012 BMW 535 Overview

Providing a bigger, more powerful engine than its little brother, the 2012 BMW 535 is the next rung on BMW’s performance ladder.

Not much has changed for 2012, but the 535 does incorporate stop-start technology. This means that the engine shuts off when the 535 is stopped and the driver’s foot is on the brake pedal. As soon as the driver released the brake, the engine restarts. The 535 is powered by a 300-horsepower, TwinPower Turbo, 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that generates 300 pounds-feet of torque, which is good for a 5.7-second zero to 60 mph time. The rear-wheel drive 535 is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with available paddle shifters.  EPA-estimated fuel ratings are 20-21 mpg in the city and 30-31 mpg on the highway.

The all-wheel-drive xDrive model allows for added handling and traction. If you enjoy the thrill of driving, you’ll enjoy BMW’s Adaptive Drive system with Active Roll Stabilization and an adaptive suspension that customizes drivetrain and suspension settings depending on the conditions. For easier turning at low speeds and stable handling at high speeds, the Active Steering feature is optional. Competition to the 2012 BMW 535 includes the Audi A6, Infiniti M and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

If you’re looking for the best of the best in technology under $55,000, the 535 won’t let you down. The state-of-the-art ConnectedDrive system includes Mobile Office, which displays smartphone emails and text messages on the iDrive screen when stationary and reads them to you while driving. Dark wood trim, 10-way power-adjustable driver’s and front passenger’s seats, micro-filter ventilation system, two-way power moonroof, ambience lighting, iPod/USB adapter and 10-speaker audio system are just some of the standard features. A power rear sunshade, heated front seats, head-up display, and rear-seat entertainment system are optional. A premium 600-watt, 16-speaker sound system and navigation system that can be displayed on a giant 10.2-inch high-resolution monitor are optional.

Safety is as impressive as anything else in the 2012 BMW 535. Side curtain airbags, side-impact airbags for the front seats, active front head restraints and an electronic stability system are standard equipment. A rear-view camera, Park Distance Control, Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection, side and top view cameras and a blind spot warning system are all optional.

If you’re looking for a luxury sedan that has plenty of pop and next generation technology, you will be hard-pressed to find one better than the 2012 BMW 535.
