2013 BMW 535 Gran Turismo Overview

The 2013 BMW 535 Gran Turismo is the touring version of the mainstay 535 sedan. For 2013, it gets a few changes including an M Sport package for enhances performance and closer smartphone integration with BMW Apps.

GT models are larger than their sedan brethren, with six inches of added length that adds legroom for interior occupants. Out back, there is also a two-piece hatchback: one is a liftgate that covers the whole rear opening and the other is a section below the rear glass that opens up to show a secondary cargo space. Standard exterior touches include BMW’s iconic kidney grille, adaptive xenon headlights, triple-row LED taillights and Adaptive Brake Lights, which illuminate more of the lamp as braking force increases.

BMW has been among a small number of automakers to continue production of an inline-six cylinder engine, a design known for its smooth power delivery. The 535 GT features a 300-horsepower, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six developing 300 pounds-feet of torque. Opt for the six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive is standard, but with the eight-speed automatic, all-wheel drive is added.

Inside you’ll find seating for four or five passengers, depending on the rear seat configuration. Standard features include automatic climate control, power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, iDrive and 10-way power front seats. The standard iDrive display at the top of the center stack measures 7 inches with 800x480 resolution. Adding the optional navigation system brings a 10.2-inch high-definition screen. The available head-up display shows speed and other pertinent information; with navigation, it adds directions to the mix. A 40/20/40-split rear seat offers extra cargo flexibility.

Standard safety features include stability and traction control, antilock brakes with emergency braking assist, seat belt load limiters, and six airbags. Options include active cruise control with collision warning, blind-spot detection, lane departure warning, and night vision with pedestrian detection.
