2012 BMW 535 Gran Turismo Overview
In what can only be described as a sporty four-door luxury hatchback, the 2012 BMW 535 Gran Turismo appeals to those who want cargo/seating flexibility with power and style.
Changes for 2012 include an M Sport Package that includes larger wheels, tires and aero body trims among other enhancements. The new BMW Apps feature integrates with the state-of-the-art ConnectedDrive system including Mobile Office. Altogether, it displays smartphone emails and text messages on the iDrive screen when stationary and reads them to you while driving.
Powering the 2012 BMW 535 Gran Turismo is a 300-horsepower, TwinPower Turbo, 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that generates 300 pounds-feet of torque. The rear-wheel-drive 535 Gran Turismo is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with available paddle shifters. EPA-estimated fuel ratings are 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
The all-wheel-drive xDrive model and optional cold weather tires allows for added handling and traction. If you enjoy the thrill of driving, you’ll enjoy the adjustable adaptive suspension that customizes drivetrain and suspension settings between Normal, Comfort and Sport.
Borrowing cues from the larger 7 Series, the 2012 535 Gran Turismo incorporates a steeply raked hatch that tapers into a short, sedan-like trunk. Because it’s kind of like a wagon, the 535 GT gains six inches on the 5 Series sedan and offers 15.5 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the rear seats, and a total of 60 cubic feet behind the front seats. There is seating for up to five occupants, but it will be cramped.
Xenon adaptive headlights with dynamic auto-leveling, LED Corona headlight-rings and Cornering Lights illuminate any and everything that comes your way – even if it’s around the corner. A 12-speaker, two-subwoofer sound system, iPod/USB port, 10-way power-adjustable driver’s and front passenger’s seat, dark wood trim, Dakota leather upholstery and door trim, panoramic moonroof and dual-access tailgate that features a smaller trunk lid and a larger tailgate are all standard features. A premium 600-watt, 16-speaker sound system and navigation system that can be displayed on a giant 10.2-inch high-resolution monitor are optional.
Safety is as impressive as anything else in the 2012 BMW 535 GT. Active front head restraints, a suite of airbags and an electronic stability system are just some of the standard equipment. A rear-view camera, Park Distance Control, Night Vision with Pedestrian Detection, side and top view cameras and a blind spot warning system are all optional.
The comfort and technology-laden 2012 BMW 535 Gran Turismo has ample power and the seating/cargo room that would make the 7 Series proud.
