2012 BMW 135 Overview
The 2012 BMW 135i gets a makeover with an improved aerodynamic design, and some exterior and interior style upgrades. Available in a two-door Coupe or Convertible model, the 135i is a rear-wheel drive luxury subcompact vehicle that delivers a strong driving performance.
As with its 1 Series companion 128i, the 135i received a redesigned front fascia, as well as headlight and taillight cluster design modifications. However, the 135i offers power driver and front passenger seats as standard features, which are options in the 128i.
Both the Coupe and Convertible are powered by a 300-horsepower, 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, and come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. The optional seven-speed, double-clutch automatic transmission features an option to shift gears manually via gear selector or steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
Fuel economy for the 135i Coupe is estimated at 20 mpg for city driving, and 28 mpg on the highway. Estimated fuel economy ratings for the Convertible 135i drops to 19 mpg in the city but matches the Coupe at 28 mpg for highway driving.
Interior refinements include a standard eight-way power adjustable driver and passenger bucket seats with seat memory and adjustable lumbar support, and 60/40 split fold-down rear passenger seats in the Coupe, with a center pass-through for the Convertible rear passenger seats. Standard leatherette upholstery and gray poplar wood trim provide a stylish feel, and may be upgraded to premium leather upholstery in a number of rich colors and wood or aluminum trims through package upgrades. A heated steering wheel and heated front seats are available, as are auto-dimming mirrors, and a universal garage door opener. The audio system includes HD Radio, iPod and USB adapter, and an auxiliary audio input for portable music players. Optional entertainment upgrades include a premium Harman Kardon surround sound system, Satellite radio with one-year subscription, and iPhone integration with access to web apps and iPod interface functions. An available navigation system provides access to maps and real-time traffic reports, and Bluetooth is available with the BMW assist emergency and crash response system.
The 135i sports standard exterior designs such as an aggressive front bumper with three large air inlets. Xenon headlights with integrated LED embedded in the caps add both style and function, and accentuate the overall appearance of the vehicle. The power sliding moonroof comes standard with the Coupe, and the Convertible has a power folding softtop with heated glass rear window and electric rear defroster, available in black our taupe. The standard 18-inch alloy wheels can be upgraded to 17- or 18-inch sport wheels, depending on package selection.
Driver and passenger front airbags, front seat mounted front side-impact airbags, and front with seat sensors, and rear head protection systems are standard safety features. The Convertible includes a rollover protection system for added passenger protection and safety. A crash sensor automatically disconnects the alternator, fuel pump and starter to prevent fires, unlocks doors and deploys interior and hazard lights in the event of a collision. Antilock brakes, dynamic stability and traction control include brake fade compensation and brake drying to keep tires on the road and ensure quick response to braking.
The 2012 BMW 135i combines power, quality, style and luxury to deliver a top-notch driving experience and comfortable ride behind the wheel.
