2013 Audi S6 Overview (See Available Styles)

Performance is the focus in the 2013 Audi S6, but it also offers the requisite luxury expected from Audi offering the best of both worlds.

The S6 is Audi’s performance answer to the BMW M5 and the Mercedes Benz E63 AMG. It is the most refined looking of the three with smooth, flowing lines and sleek xenon headlights as standard. The stock wheels are 19-inch alloys clad in summer rubber, but 20-inch options are available for a premium. Every S6 also gets heated side mirrors, quad exhaust tips, and the signature Audi front grille. Options are extensive and include LED headlamps and anti-glare folding side mirrors.

Audi’s are renowned for their interiors and the S6 is no exception. Every S6 features leather upholstery, sport seats, automatic climate control, leather multifunction steering wheel, sunroof, and Bluetooth connectivity. The S6 also gets Audi’s MMI system standard, which uses a touchpad to recognize letter and symbol inputs that the driver can write with just one hand. The system gets smarter the more it’s used, learning the driver’s handwriting and completing commands based on those inputs. There are also one-piece sport seats up front which keep the front passengers firmly planted even under hard cornering. Optional features include satellite navigation, Bang and Olufsen sound system, and HD radio.

The engine, similar to the competition, has lost two cylinders in an effort to make the S6 more fuel efficient. However, even though it’s smaller, it offers more power and faster acceleration.  The 420-horsepower, twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 makes 406 pounds-feet of torque and is paired with a quick seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The engine also gets fuel-saving cylinder deactivation technology. Quattro all-wheel drive is standard as well and comes with a sport differential that can split torque between the left and right wheels as well as front/back. Fuel economy figures for the S6 are 17/27 MPG city/highway which beat the previous version by a large margin.

Indeed, the IIHS gave the 2013 Audi A6/S6 “Good” ratings across the board and a “Top Safety Pick” badge of excellence. Each S6 gets eight airbags as standard, stability/traction control, gigantic four-wheel antilock disc brakes, and high-strength B-pillars to resist deformation in side collisions. Options include two airbags for rear-side protection, all forms of electronic driving aids, and a night-vision camera to help see in the dark.

EPA Fuel Economy

  • City: 17 MPG
  • Highway: 27 MPG
