2010 Audi S4 Overview
Audi’s midsize performance sedan, the 2010 Audi S4 gets a new, smaller engine that maintains the level of performance of last year’s V-8, with far superior fuel economy.
Behind that big grille is a 333-horsepower, 3.0-liter supercharged V-6. That muscle gets bolted to a six-speed manual or Audi’s seven-speed, dual-clutch S Tronic transmission where power is delivered to the Quattro all-wheel drive system. The S Tronic acts like an automatic transmission to the casual observer, but to the tech-savvy it is one of the world’s most advanced transmissions, and delivers arguably the world’s fastest shifting on a production street car. The S4 delivers 18 mpg city and 27-28 mpg on the highway. Both power and fuel economy are superior to the BMW 335i, Acura TL, and Mercedes-Benz C350.
The S4 is loaded with standard features including a sunroof, leather and Alcantara seats, alloy and wood interior trim, heated eight-way power adjustable driver and front passenger seats, three-zone automatic climate control, a 180-watt 10-speaker stereo with Sirius Satellite Radio and Audi’s MMI multimedia interface with center display screen. A rear view camera, TV with DVD entertainment system, navigation system and Bang & Olufsen audio system are optional.
Audi Space Frame technology provides a strong all aluminum-alloy structure under the luscious skin of the S4. The aluminum frame is hundreds of pounds lighter than a conventional steel frame, which enhances fuel economy and handling, as well as acceleration. While it is light, the space frame is also very strong. In conjunction with front, front-side, and two-row head airbags, this structure delivers Five-Star crash ratings across the board in government tests. Antilock brakes with a brake assist, traction and stability control systems help the driver avoid performing their own crash tests.
