2012 Audi A6 Overview (See Available Styles)

The 2012 Audi A6 full-size luxury sports sedan seats five, and is available in two trims, the 2.0T FrontTrack front-wheel drive, and the 3.0T quattro all-wheel drive.

The Audi A6 underwent a complete redesign for 2012, with exterior and interior styling revisions, and the introduction of new technologies delivering safety enhancements, increased performance, and added convenience. The 2012 model uses more aluminum in the design to achieve a 60-pound lighter body weight than the previous model year, and the wheelbase gained an additional three inches in length. Luxury is emphasized with standard leather seats, a step up from the leather upgrade-only option with competitors BMW and Mercedes-Benz

The A6 2.0T has a 211-horsepower, 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with a multitronic continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, while the A6 3.0T comes with a 310-horsepower, 3.0-liter, supercharged V-6 engine, with an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission and Audi Quattro all-wheel drive. The A6 3.0T uses direct injection and supercharging for greatest range of maximum torque, giving the A6 3.0T V-6 engine the feel and power of a V-8.

The base model A6 2.0T leads with excellent fuel economy, weighing in at 25 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The more powerful A6 3.0T sacrifices fuel economy for power, trailing with 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

The 2012 Audi A6 exudes luxury with its standard leather eight-way power front seats with four-way power driver’s seat lumbar adjustment, heated front seats (optional on the 2.0T), and a leather-wrapped shift knob. Interior upgrades include dark brown walnut or fine grain ash natural brown wood inlays, brushed aluminum inlays, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and multi-function steering wheel with shift paddles. The sunroof with sliding and tilting functions comes standard with all models.

Standard technology features include driver’s seat memory, keyless start, Bluetooth, and a home link remote transmitter. An audio system with iPod/iPhone integration and SiriusXM Satellite Radio come standard, while upgrades to Bose or Bang & Olufsen premium sound systems are available. Impressive technology features include the optional Audi Connect, which transforms the A6 into a mobile WiFi hotspot, and Audi MMI Touch, which recognizes the driver’s handwriting using a touchpad to control navigation and telephone functions, and has an integrated eight-inch high-resolution monitor with hard and soft key controls. An optional heads up display projects driving-related information on the windshield, eliminating the need for the driver to take eyes off the road. The navigation system integrates with Google Earth for access to weather, news, directions, gas prices, and other relevant information.

The redesigned Audi A6 has a sportier look, with a lower frame and larger wheelbase. Front bumpers feature wide, low air intake grilles and full LED technology headlights with integrated running lights give the Audi a distinctive style. Wheel options range from 17 to 20 inches and are available with a five-V spoke or five-double-spoke design.

Safety features include a driver assistance system that monitors blind spots and fast-approaching vehicles and warns drivers of their approach. Adaptive cruise control paces to the surrounding vehicles and employs video cameras and radar sensors to warn of potential collisions and automatically applies braking to slow the vehicle. Optional night vision technology detects pedestrians and animals in the vehicle’s path that may not otherwise be visible. Airbags include driver and front passenger head, thorax and knee airbags, head curtain airbags for front and rear passengers, and rear-passenger thorax side airbags.

The 2012 Audi A6 is a performance-driven, well-crafted luxury sedan that packs in safety and technology features to provide a stylish, comfortable ride.
