When a luxury-class automaker presents a compact hatchback that doesn’t sacrifice amenities for price, car buyers can’t help but take notice of the 2009 Audi A3.

The A3 is available in two engine styles. The first is the 2.0T - a 200-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that features both front- or all-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual or S-tronic automatic with manual-shift mode transmission. An upgraded 3.2 Quattro trim level provides for sportier handling with all-wheel drive and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Turbocharged with a 250-horsepower, 3.2-liter V-6 engine, there is plenty of kick under the hood.

Going stride for stride with the Saab 9-3 SportsCombi and Volvo V50, the A3 presents a strong argument as Audi’s entry-level vehicle. The interior cabin is laden with high quality materials and upscale fit. Combined with a tradition of engineering prowess, the A3 demonstrates comparable fuel economy to others in its’ class with 21-22 MPG city and 28-30 MPG highway.

The A3 seats up to five passengers very comfortably and exhibits a desirable low seat position paired with a tall, wide center console. Standard aluminum trim and leather seating accents driving controls and handles. An Open-Sky two-section glass sunroof – which comes standard on the 3.2 style level includes separate blinds to ensure that the car’s inside maintains a cool climate and shields against any range of the sun’s glare for longer drives. Sirius Satellite Radio is an available feature on all models.

Audi’s attention to detail is stretched across a sterling safety record, as the A3 offers standard side-impact and curtain airbags, active front head restraints and electronic stability system. Standard hill-hold assist helps drivers gain an advantage on steep grades, and front MacPherson strut suspension and four-link independent suspension in the vehicle’s rear are sure to bring drivers a strong peace of mind.

Striking the right balance between stylish handling and a relaxing ride, those experiencing the 2009 Audi A3 will find an advantageous break in the mold of your typically versatile, fuel-efficient and nimble hatchback.
