2008 Acura TL Overview
A potent performer with a wide array of driver-friendly features, the 2008 Acura TL is the brand’s best-selling sports sedan. Utilizing proven VTEC® engine technology to extract maximum performance, both the standard TL and the upscale Type-S trim levels combine sporty handling with an array of luxury amenities. Starting with a 3.2 liter VTEC® V-6 engine, the TL yields a robust 258 horsepower and 233 lb.-ft. of torque, with the Type-S variant taking power up to 286 horsepower and 256 lb.-ft. of torque from its larger 3.5 liter VTEC® V-6 engine. What’s more, the Type-S features two performance transmissions, a 5-speed automatic with Sequential SportShift and steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters, and a 6-speed close-ratio manual for quick, crisp shifting. The Type-S also features a high-flow exhaust system, decreasing back pressure and adding a little snarl to the exhaust sound. The TL chassis combines excellent interior space with the traction advantages of front-wheel drive. A torque-steer reduction system keeps things in control during takeoff while the high-performance suspension tuning and 4-piston Brembo® brake calipers of the Type-S add world-class handling characteristics. No stranger to luxury and convenience features, the TL features 5.1 Surround Sound, Dolby Pro-Logic II, XM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, and an advanced navigation system with voice recognition. Up front, dual-zone climate control and sophisticated leather seating wrap occupants in comfort, while the Type-S has high-performance seats with generous side bolsters. With a plethora of safety and security features, the highlights include standard anti-lock braking system (ABS) combined with electronic brake distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist for sure-footed and timely evasive maneuvers. To help maintain control in spirited driving, the Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) system continually monitors speed, throttle position, wheel speed, steering angle, lateral g-forces, and yaw rate to detect oversteer or understeer. To top it off, a rearview camera (available with the optional navigation system), high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights, and a supplemental restraint system with dual front, dual-stage airbags, side airbags, and side curtain airbags make the TL an enticing choice in the entry-level luxury sports sedan market. |
