2011 Acura RL Overview
The 2011 Acura RL is the flagship of Acura’s line and is ready to compete against the best midsize sedans the luxury competition has to offer.
On the mechanical side, the 2011 RL is powered by a 300-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6. For 2011, the RL gets a brand new six-speed automatic transmission which features paddle shifters. The new transmission also helps to boost the RL’s fuel economy numbers, which now sit at 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. A defining feature of the RL is that Acura’s Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system comes standard on all models. This system is not only able to send torque to the front or rear wheels, but can also shift power from left to right depending on what’s needed giving you great traction and control especially in the bends.
The exterior of the RL is a continuation of the style that Acura has been putting on all of its cars of late. The signature Acura grille up front has been revised for 2011, but still looks as sharp as ever. An exciting development for the RL’s exterior is new wheel technology that works with added sound insulation to reduce interior noise by 15 percent. Standard exterior features include xenon headlights and hexagonal dual tailpipes. An adaptive headlight system is optional.
Inside, Acura has once again kept the options list simple and the RL comes well equipped. Standard are features like power front seats, leather upholstery, a Bose surround-sound stereo, and heated front seats. Technology like Bluetooth® connectivity, automatic climate control, USB/iPod integration, and keyless start also comes standard. The RL can also be outfitted with two distinct packages: the Technology Package and the Advance Package. Opting for the Technology Package adds a navigation system with real-time traffic and weather updates, backup camera, cooled front seats, and rear parking sensors. The Advance Package tacks on safety systems like a collision mitigation braking system and adaptive cruise control, as well as power folding side mirrors.
Speaking of safety, the 2011 RL comes with standard four-wheel disc antilock brakes, electronic stability system, traction control, and a full complement of airbags including side-impact and side curtain airbags.
The 2011 Acura RL features great handling and drivability along with an interior chock-full of luxury features, making it one of the cars to beat in the luxury sedan segment.
