2010 BMW M5
Price Range: $85,500 - $85,700

Utility
Neither the BMW M5 nor the average sedan has a marked advantage when it comes to seating capacity. There's no clear winner between the M5 and the average sedan with respect to hauling capacity.

Performance
As far as horsepower, the M5 packs quite a punch and will knock the typical sedan down a few rungs. On the other hand, bear in mind that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums.

Dimensions
The BMW M5 is significantly more bulky than the average sedan. The average sedan's tank is almost the same size as the BMW M5's, though the BMW M5's is a bit larger. The typical sedan and the M5 compete for the same parking spaces.

Convenience
You will have to visit your friendly gas station more often with the BMW M5 than with the average sedan.

Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. It costs about the same to get the typical sedan to the dealership as the BMW M5. As far as gas mileage, the average sedan bests the BMW M5. The average sedan will save you money at the pump compared to the M5. When it comes to MSRP, the average sedan costs tremendously less than the BMW M5. The average sedan will save you a bundle at the pump every year compared to the BMW M5. The BMW M5 will cost you a lots_of_money in gasoline every year compared to the average sedan.

Handling
With its tighter turning circle, the average sedan is most certainly nimbler than the M5, something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; however, note that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the highway.

Drivetrain
The BMW M5 has a bigger engine than the typical sedan. Remember that smaller engines are often cheaper to fix, but a smaller engine usually has to work a little harder. The M5 packs quite a wallop compared to the average sedan when it comes to torque, which is the force that lets you accelerate quickly. Torque equals pickup, and the BMW M5 will have picked up and gone by the time the average sedan finally gets moving.

Comfort
While the front cabin in the BMW M5 offers a bit more head room than the average sedan, there really isn't much of a difference. The M5 is not particularly roomier for your passengers than the average sedan.

Warranty
The basic warranty that comes with the typical sedan isn't quite as generous as the BMW M5's.
